OPRA- Request for Public Records Form

  1. As per N.J.S.A. 47:1A-1 Government Records shall be readily accessible for inspection, copying or examination by the citizens of this state with certain exceptions for the protection of public interest

    Check the public record(s) that you would like and provide descriptive detail to help properly identify the requested document.
  6. Property
  7. Please provide any additional information or detail(s) that will assist the department(s) in providing the responsive records you seek.
  8. Please describe the records sought in a way that will permit the Record Custodian to determine which department to forward the request to. Be as specific as possible identifying type of records, parties to correspondences, subject matter, date range. Request for "any and all" are generally considered overly broad an may require clarification. Please also note, that questions will not be answered. You must identify a specific government record. OPRA is not designed as a question and answer.

    Please note, some of the Building and Land Use files may be too large to email and we ask that you review the requested documents in the office. In addition, please note that your preferred method of delivery will only be accommodated if the custodian has the technological means and the integrity of the records will not be jeopardized by such method of delivery

    Please indicate below if you have or have not been convicted of any indictable offense under the laws of New Jersey, any other state or the United States as per N.J.S.A. 2C: 28-3

    OPRA is not designed as a question and answer forum, questions will not be addressed through the Open Public Records Act.     Cost per page of photo copies: 8 1/2 x 11, letter size paper- $00.05 8 1/2 x 14, legal size paper- $00.07.
  13. Requirements to Fulfill a Request
    As per N.J.S.A. 47:1A-1 the custodian of records has seven (7) business days to respond to a request for public records. Day one (1) begins the following business day of the custodian's receipt of the request.
  14. Right to Appeal
    The requester has a right to challenge a decision by the public agency that has denied access to a public record by appealing to the Government Records Council or the New Jersey Superior Court. If your request is denied, a statement of the procedures will be detailed in an email from the Records Custodian.

  16. Fees for Reproduction
  17. As per N.J.S.A. 47:1A-1 the Record Custodian must provide the legal basis for the denial of access or denial in part.
